Maquoketa Community School District |
Maquoketa Community Schools decided to utilize the proceeds from their one-cent sales tax for additions to several of the district's educational sites, including the high school. The high school addition would expand the school cafeteria, and add a new performance gymnasium and physical education spaces, as well as a new lobby entrance.
Ament, Inc. explored several design options with the District, settling on one that had the gym space set partially into the ground, giving it an arena-type feel. The project also created a new "front door" to the high school, as well as spacious interior areas allowing flexible usage during student and community events.
The proposed project adds 18,000 GSF for the gym and athletics areas, and 19,000 GSF for support spaces, including the expansion of the cafeteria. It also includes 5,000 GSF remodeling of existing spaces to support the expansion.
