Project
DUNKERTON CITY HALL FACILITY
Dunkerton, IA
 |
The City of Dunkerton needed to construct a replacement facility for their City Hall that was destroyed during a tornado. For several years they leased a temporary facility until a bond issue was approved by the voters.
The new facility was designed to fit on an odd, long rectangular plot of land the City owned adjacent to Dunkerton High School.
The building was designed with 3000 GSF, including 2100 NSF for offices, clerical, boardroom and public toilets. The garage occupied the remaining 900 NSF and included two storage areas for evidence and public works storage needs.
The garage doors are insulated steel with standard door operators with remote openers. Windows are vinyl and trim and accessories are also vinyl to match the siding. The exterior covered walk way has columns made of sheet metal surrounding wood sub- framing.

Interior finishes
|
The interior finishes of the structure are primarily gypsum wall board with paint, some vinyl wall covering, carpet and vinyl tile on the floors and some acoustical tile ceilings in a few of the rooms. Mechanical systems consist of combination furnace/air-conditioning units serving two main zones, and simple heat for the garage.
Electrical power and lighting are appropriate for the intended uses. Site work consisted of on-site grading to prepare the area for the building pad and paving and extension of the surrounding utilities to the building.
