COTTAGE GROVE BRIDGE
City of Cedar Rapids, Iowa

The Cottage Grove Avenue Bridge project involved the complete replacement of an old steel girder bridge over Indian Creek in Cedar Rapids. The project also included road and storm sewer reconstruction on either side of the bridge. The project began with the road closing on June 12, 2000. Taylor Construction, the general contractor for the project, immediately began demolition of the existing bridge.

The contractor had a 135-day critical closure period to get the bridge constructed and the road back open to traffic.

Construction of the bridge continued up to the deck pour on August 25, 2000. After construction of the bridge was complete the bridge approaches, paving, subdrains, and storm sewer work was finished.

On October 6, 117 days after the road had closed, the Cottage Grove Avenue Bridge was opened to the public.

The new Cottage Grove Avenue Bridge over Indian Creek is a 150'-0" x 59'- 0" continuous concrete slab bridge with sidewalks on either side. It features two mainline traffic lanes as well as one left hand turn slot for westbound traffic to turn onto 34th Street.
