Ament Engineering

Project

12TH AVENUE/OAKDALE BOULEVARD IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
City of Coralville, Iowa

Text Box: This was the third project in a sequence of four awarded to Ament by the City of Coralville within the same project area. The project involved the design of a major suburban intersection with four 5-lane approaches, and a total of 3,000 feet of adjacent arterial roadway, including both new construction and reconstruction.

Ament engineers worked closely with landscape architects Crose-Gardner-Shukert to achieve the City's aesthetic goals for the roadway. The concept recommended the purchase of right-of-way along Oakdale Boulevard adequate to accommodate a future four-lane roadway, with immediate construction limited to two lanes.

A design for traffic signals was completed and conduit was installed for completion at a future date. The total range of design services included: paving of two 2-lane urban roadways, intersection design, traffic signal design, cost opinion, construction staging, pavement marking, right-of-way plats, grading, drainage, storm sewer, water main, bike and pedestrian trails. Ament also provided construction staking and construction observation for this project.

Ament Performance on Cost:
Our cost opinion for this project was $1 million, and the final bid was $963,225.15.

Ament Performance on Schedule:
Preliminary and final plans were submitted on schedule in November 1996, and January 1997, respectively.

Ament Personnel Involvement:
